“Is the internet going to break?”
The other day I saw a stat that blew my brain hole.
Since the Corona Virus outbreak, internet traffic has increased by 30% TOTAL. That’s never happened in such a short period in the history of the internet. (I’ve seen headlines of “Is the internet going to break cuz of all the traffic?” Hence the title above.)
So what does that mean for you?
It means there’s more advertising inventory than ever before.
We’re currently seeing lower ad costs than we’ve seen in a LONG time. Our ads are performing really well at the moment.
One of the reasons for that is because of the increased ad inventory…
Now if you don’t know what that means…don’t worry. Let me explain real quick.
Companies like Facebook advertise to the people on their platform. There are only a certain number of people on that platform each day.
Advertisers bid to show up in front of Facebook’s users. (Facebook owns Instagram btw.) Ad costs rise when lots of people are advertising because we’re all bidding on the same inventory.
With a 30% uptick in internet traffic that means there’s suddenly more ad inventory. On top of that, the more time people spend on Facebook and Instagram, the more ads they can show them.
I don’t know the stats, but I’d bet people are spending 3 to 10 times more time on those platforms than they normally do.
That drives ad costs even lower.
Basically the more traffic they have, the more ad inventory they have. The more inventory they have, the more it drives down ad costs.
Moral of the story: This is the best time to advertise. You should be doing it.
Even if you’ve never run an ad and you can only start with a budget of $10 a day, it’s worth it right now.
I would just focus on one type of advertising above all else.
Retargeting.
Retargeting is where you RE-target people who’ve already seen your ads or visited your site. (Kinda self-explanatory right?)
If you’re already advertising then you need to make sure your retargeting strategy is dialed in.
Our retargeting ads are what allow us to run traffic profitably. Without getting the retargeting right, we wouldn’t be able to run our ads at scale.
There’s not a lot of people I trust when it comes to running traffic. But there’s a handful of guys that I truly believe in..
One of them is Justin Brooke. He’s LEGIT. (There’s a couple other guys who I’ll tell you about too. One guy in particular who’s had a huge impact on our ad strategy.)
Justin wrote a bad ass book called Retargeting Recipes.
It’s free, you cover shipping. You’ll literally pay back the shipping after one sale. It’s a no-brainer if I’ve ever seen one.
If you’ve been following me for long, then you know I don’t promote other people’s products often.
There’s a reason for that.
It can take hours, days, weeks, months, or years to build trust. But it only takes one second to lose it forever.
If I tell you about shitty products then I’ll lose your trust. That’s why I only tell you about stuff I use personally.
This is something we’re going through this weekend and implementing in our ad strategy on Monday.
I know you’ll be happy you did.
He also gives you a digital version you can download immediately so you don’t have to wait for the book to show up to start learning the strategies.
And if you’re not running traffic for your own business, you can still show these strategies to your clients to help them make more money.
Tomorrow I’ll tell you about the biggest retargeting mistake I see people make on a daily basis.
Talk soon,
