I used to define entrepreneurship as guilt.
It was the constant feeling that I could be doing more. And if I wasn’t doing something I felt like shit.
If I wasn’t growing I felt like I was useless.
I had to be listening to a podcast, reading a book, or meeting a “mentor” or I was wasting my time. (Which is a ridiculous phrase that I’ll talk about another time.)
Even when I was watching TV I made sure I was watching a documentary so I could be “learning.”
If I watched some casual Netflix all I could hear was the all the gurus yelling in my head to “get of my ass and take MASSIVE action.”
Quit sitting around like a lazy piece of shit and DO something with your life.
And guess what…
It. Was. Fucking. Miserable.
Life is not a race. It’s not some thing we’re chasing.
We won’t magically feel good all the time because our bank account has a certain number of commas and zeroes in it.
Don’t get me wrong. I was that guy. The ENTREPRENEUR who couldn’t go two fucking sentences without talking about business, or learning, or growth.
And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. But it was dominating my life. (And I’ve heard similar stories from other entrepreneurs.)
I still love money. Life is better when you have a bunch of it. But it doesn’t define you. And neither does the pursuit of it.
Now when I see these people online talking about getting into “that two comma club bro” I wanna throw up…and then give that person a hug and tell them they’re enough.
Because the reality is you are enough. You’re enough right now. Exactly as you are.
But that’s a lot easier to hear than it is to accept.
We have a tendency to love ourselves in a way that’s conditional.
IF I get THAT then I’ll be ok. Then I’ll be enough.
Once I make $10k a month I’ll be sorted out. Then it’s once I make $20k a month. Then $100k a month. Then we start to get upset because Todd has a bigger Yacht than we do.
Then we get sad because Todd bought a submarine right after you got a bigger Yacht.
Maybe that’s a bit extreme…but you get the point.
We chase these things in our lives based on the idea that they will make us feel a certain way. The reality is only we can make ourselves feel how we want to feel.
When you take responsibility for that simple reality…your life starts to change in ways you can’t imagine…yet.
When you stop beating yourself up for making mistakes and being a flawed human…that’s when you can become who you’re meant to be.
But all this is way easier said than done. And it’s even easier to type about it from behind a screen and pretend like I have it all figured out.
I don’t have it all figured out.
But I have learned some stuff that’s genuinely changed my life for the better. Both internally and externally.
The main reason for this dramatic change in my life was starting to live my ideal day.
If you’re interested in getting rid of that persistent feeling of guilt…or you’ve ever felt like you’re not enough…then I recommend you check out my FREE training on creating your ideal day. The first step in creating the life of your dreams is to create your Ideal Day.
